Food, Nutrition & Diet

Haulfryn Care is located in tranquil surroundings close to Wrexham and Mold

A key aspect of making us home is serving good quality, healthy, home-cooked, nutritious food

We have a food hygiene rating of 5 and we work hard to keep it that way!

We understand the importance of food for people living at Haulfryn. Food is an integral part of the day. The relationship that we all have with it is not based purely on the requirement of nutrition; we get a whole array of emotional and psychological responses from it!

Food can have many psychological effects - social, comfort, love, reward, memory, nurturing, occupation and identity to name but a few. These psychological reactions are all accommodated within our person-centred framework, by which we deliver our residents' required nutrition and hydration over a 24-hour period.

We observe each person’s natural biorhythms to ensure we’re getting the most from our opportunities, with the emphasis on a day being a 24-hour period, not three set mealtimes. We all have our own quirks, and these are respected and tailored for.

Because good food and nutrition matters

Freshly prepared meals made to individual requirements

All food is freshly prepared daily by our cooks, overseen by our senior cook Mrs Keris Williams. Keris runs the kitchen to the highest standard, ensuring that she keeps people involved with menu preparation, food preparation, and how and when meals are served. People are given a choice of meals daily.

Food is served using contrasting dinner service to ensure people are able to see the food being served to them.

Food is available over a 24-hour period, with emphasis on seeking each opportunity to ensure calorie intake remains high.

Our senior cook, Mrs Keris Williams, has received training in:

  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hospitality Services
  • Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles
  • Level 3 Supervising Food Safety in Catering
  • Nutrition and The Entire Dining Experience in Dementia Care
  • Food Allergy Training
  • Level 1 Sugarcraft
  • Dementia Care Awareness

Healthy meals help to ensure that a healthy weight is maintained, which can result in fewer falls and a better quality of life.
